Al-Mussaib Technical Institute at Al-Furat Al-Awsat Technical University held a festival on women’s empowerment in the presence of Professor Dr. Jabbar Abbas Jaber Al-Khafaji, Dean of Al-Musayyab Technical Institute, assistants, heads of scientific departments, and a large number of affiliates and students. The festival included a welcoming speech to the attendees, reciting verses from the Holy Quran, and listening to the national anthem while standing. Then, a speech was given on Women’s Day by the lecturer Ghadir, head of the Women’s Empowerment Unit, in which she spoke about the main role played by women, whether at home or at work, and their importance in society and that they are half of society. She also spoke about the history of women’s development, as previously they were limited to raising children and caring for household matters only, but over the years they have come to play an important role in society, especially in governmental and non-governmental departments. The festival included a presentation of a CV about some of the distinguished female lecturers at the institute and the important roles they have held during their work at the institute. They were honored with a certificate of appreciation by Dr. Al-Khafaji and group photos were taken on this occasion. In conclusion, Dr. Al-Khafaji inspected the bazaar for the scientific departments with the participation of affiliates. And the students<\/strong>
stressing the importance of holding such events to develop cultural and scientific awareness among students<\/strong>
presenting his thanks to the Student Activities Division represented by its official Mr. Diaa Hassan for holding the festival and to the Women Empowerment Unit<\/strong>

The seminar included an explanation of the concept, behaviors, and causes of harassment in the street and at work, and the position of Islam and the law on this phenomenon. Seminar on the legal frameworks for women\u2019s participation in political organizations, movements and provincial councils<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The Women’s Affairs Unit held a seminar on the legal frameworks for women’s participation in political organizations, movements and provincial councils. This workshop addressed the legal basis for women’s participation in political life through the texts included in the Iraqi constitution and electoral laws that guaranteed women’s right to political participation, including Article 14, which stipulated that Iraqis are equal before the law without discrimination based on gender or race, as well as Article 12 of the Transitional State Administration Law. The workshop also referred to Article 20 of the Iraqi constitution, which stipulated that citizens, men or women, have the right to participate in public rights and enjoy political rights, including the right to vote, elect and run for office. The Iraqi constitution also obligated political parties to allocate a quarter of the parliament’s seats to women according to the quota system, ensuring that 25% of women obtain seats in parliament. The workshop also addressed Article 39, first, which referred to the freedom to establish political parties and associations and to belong to them. This ensures women’s effective participation in political life. Iraq is witnessing increasing activity in women’s civil society organizations. These organizations have been established over the past years with the aim of enhancing the participation of Iraqi women in decision-making and building society. This also includes the provincial council elections, which must not be less than 25% of the total council seats, based on the provincial councils law. The workshop included a reference to Article 49, Fourth, of the Constitution, which is considered the most important guarantor of women’s political participation, which stipulates that the Elections Law aims to achieve a percentage of women’s representation of not less than a quarter of the members of the House of Representatives. The workshop also addressed the importance of women’s political participation as clear evidence of the extent of society’s progress and development and contributes to establishing the foundations of democracy and building a state of citizenship. This workshop comes within the curriculum of the Women’s Affairs Unit.<\/strong><\/p>

The Women’s Affairs Unit held a discussion session on the laws regulating women’s work in Iraqi law, given the prominent importance of women in society and preserving them is at the core of the objectives of positive law. To preserve them, the Iraqi legislator has set a set of restrictions on the work of this prominent group in society, including a ban on strenuous, dangerous and arduous work and a ban on the employment of pregnant women and infants. These restrictions stipulated in Iraqi Labor Law No. 37 of 2015 came due to the special nature of women, whether in their physical makeup or even in their psychological makeup and society’s view of them. Therefore, their work cannot be left without control. The workshop also addressed restrictions on women’s employment at night, taking into account women’s dual role between their family and work. The laws agreed to prohibit women’s employment at night except in exceptional cases. Article 86 of the Labor Law states: “It is not permissible to employ a working woman in night work unless the work is necessary or due to force majeure or to preserve raw materials or perishable products, or if there is a force majeure that led to the unexpected cessation of work in the project, provided that this will not be repeated.” The workshop also addressed the rights of working women in the Iraqi Constitution, which stipulates in Article 22 the freedom to work and Article 29, which stipulates that the state guarantees the protection of motherhood and childhood, as well as the state guarantees social security for the individual and the family, especially children and women. The workshop also referred to the leaves that women enjoy, including pregnancy and childbirth leave. The workshop also addressed the criminal and civil penalties for violating these provisions. Digital Crisis Management and How Women Should Act When Being Blackmailed<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>

The Women’s Affairs Unit at Al-Musayyab Technical Institute, in cooperation with the Public Relations and Media Directorate of the Babil Brigade\/Federal Police, held a seminar on digital crisis management and how women should behave when exposed to blackmail. The seminar was attended by Assistant Professor Dr. Malik Nima Hawas Al-Khazraji, Dean of Al-Musayyab Technical Institute, and a number of faculty members and students. The seminar included:<\/strong><\/span>
1. Raising women’s digital awareness of the dangers of cyber blackmail and its modern methods.<\/strong><\/span>
2. Empowering women with psychological and legal tools to deal with blackmail without submission or guilt.<\/strong><\/span>
3. Spreading the culture of reporting and emphasizing the role of official bodies in providing protection and assistance.<\/strong><\/span>
4. Explaining the steps for proper behavior when exposed to a digital crisis through realistic scenarios.<\/strong><\/span>
5. Emphasizing the importance of digital protection and privacy when using the internet and social media.<\/strong><\/span>
